ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Farooq H. Naek has said that Pakistan is facing terrorism, which has taken seriuos toll on its economy and other sectors. Massive damage on economic and human front has been caused due to war against terrorism, he said while talking to Mike Smith, Executive Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) who called on him at the Parliament House on Thursday. “Terrorism is eroding the very fabric of our society. We are the biggest victim of terrorism. We have lost our great leader, Shaheed Mohtrama Benizer Bhutto. Our economy is in disarray because of terrorist activities”, he said.

“Millions of dollars, that could have been spent for the socio-economic development of the country, are being spent to uproot terrorism. Every Pakistani is directly or indirectly affected by the terrorism,” he added. Mike Smith said that CTED desires to organize a workshop forPakistani Parliamentarians in November.
The workshop titled “Parliament’s oversight to implement Anti-Money Laundering / Countering Financing of terrorism legislation” will be preceded by CTED sponsored two visits of Parliamentarian to Turkey and USA. He also requested the Chairman to lead one visit. Welcoming CTED’s proposal for hosting workshop for the lawmakers and other stakeholders associated with anti money laundering regime in Pakistan, the Chairman appreciated CTED’s efforts for enhancing Pakistan’s capacity in the fields of (Anti Money Laundering / Countering Financing of terror) legislation.
He also briefed him about Pakistan’s Domestic Legal Framework for Anti-Money Laundering / Countering Financing of terrorism legislation On the occasion, the Chairman apprised Mr.Mike about the devastation caused by the flood in Pakistan. Mr.Mike Smith expressed deep sadness at the tragic loss and suffering that Pakistan has been experiencing as a result of devastating floods.
